About Indiana Minority Health Coalition

Our Mission
“To enhance the quality of life through education, advocacy, and quality health care services for racial/ethnic minorities. To conduct research and training, develop policy, and create and maintain a broad-based network of affiliate agencies.”
In 1992, local minority health coalitions, with the assistance of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, met and developed the first
5-year Minority Health Strategic Plan for Indiana.
The local coalitions subsequently created IMHC as a means to facilitate the adoption of the strategic plan as it passed through the legislative process. The general consensus among the leadership was that the Minority Health Initiative needed one statewide entity that could serve as a focal point and a unified voice for the local coalitions’ concerns.
Thus, IMHC was legally incorporated in 1994.
How it got Started
Impactful Advocacy and Education
The IMHC is steadfast in the mission it set forth nearly 30 years ago — to improve the health of all Indiana residents through education, advocacy, health care access and research. Through our unwavering vision, we will continue to
Promote minority health through education, advocacy, public policy, research, and leadership; advocate for community representation for medically underserved individuals that will bring about workable solutions to address personal, family, and community health problems experienced by minority populations; reduce premature mortality and illness resulting from conditions to which minority populations are at high risk by stimulating awareness of and knowledge about those conditions; improve access to health care and services for minorities and individuals who are unable to obtain adequate care; ensure that health care services are high quality, are culturally sensitive, and sufficiently coordinated;
and advocate on legislative and administrative policy issues that
affect the availability, accessibility, and quality of health care for
minority populations.
